Our Mission
The New Wheel is a project to help shape the future of transportation. We are dedicated to providing customers with the finest electric bikes that embody a modern ethic of doing more with less and living better for it.
Our History
The New Wheel was founded in 2009 by Brett Thurber who was inspired by the idea of electric bikes but found the product available and the way it was being sold to be less than inspiring. Beginning as a mobile electric bike shop, with Brett doing house calls and demonstrations across the city by electric bike, The New Wheel developed into a brick and mortar shop located in San Francisco’s North Beach. In March 2012, Brett, joined by his wife Karen Wiener, moved to a larger location in Bernal Heights, San Francisco where they plan to stay far into the future.
Our Shop
The heart of The New Wheel is our brick and mortar shop. Sustainability means more than running on batteries: it means purchasing products that will last, maintaining products with skilled service, investing in people, places and communities. Our retail shop is just as much a part of the larger sustainability mission of The New Wheel as the products we sell.

Take Interstate 80 West towards San Francisco across the Bay Bridge. Merge onto the 101 South. Take exit 432 for Cesar Chavez towards Bayshore Blvd. Take a right on Cortland. We're at 420 on the left side of the street. |

Take the 101 North towards San Francisco. Take exit 430 B twoards Silver Ave. Turn left onto Bayshore Blvd and then take a left on Cortland. We're at 420 on the left side of the street. |
From the North Bay |
Take the 101 South towards San Francisco. Turn right on Divisadero. Turn left onto Oak. Take a right onto Octavia and continue onto the Central Freeway. Merge onto the 101 South. Take exit 432 for Cesar Chavez towards Bayshore Blvd. Take a right on Cortland. We're at 420 on the left side of the street. |
